The Historic Resources Commission (HRC) is a municipal historic preservation agency charged with preserving and protecting the cultural and architectural character of Asheville and Buncombe County. In addition to reviewing proposed projects affecting locally designated historic properties, the HRC is responsible for local district and landmark designation. The HRC functions as an educational resource within the community, and strives to foster Asheville’s unique sense of place through its preservation efforts. The Historic Resources Commission has also been approved as a Certified Local Government (CLG), which means that the North Carolina State Historic Preservation Office, with the concurrence of the National Park Service, has approved the Historic Resources Commission to carry out the purpose of the National Historic Preservation Act at the local government level.
