City of Asheville and Asheville firefighters to host Tunnel2Towers 5K

Event honors those who perished on 9/11

Among the promises made by Americans after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, was to pay homage to those who perished, and to never allow the heroism and resilience displayed by Americans in the aftermath to be forgotten.

As we near the 15th anniversary of 9/11, the City of Asheville continues to urge Americans to honor our first responders, especially those who lost their lives on that fateful day. In keeping with that spirit, the Asheville Fire Department and City of Asheville will host a Tunnel2Towers 5K on Sept 11. Asheville is one of two cities hosting an event in which runners actually run through a tunnel.

The run will be held from 8:46 a.m. to noon Sept. 11. Find registration information on the Asheville Event Brite Tunnel2Towers page.

More about the event

The Tunnel2Towers Run and Walk Series was created to honor the heroic life and death of Stephen Siller, a New York City firefighter (FDNY) who lost his life on September 11, 2001, after strapping on his gear and running through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the Twin Towers.
