The City of Asheville is laying groundwork for a renovation of the ART Station at 49 Coxe Ave. Renovations will start in early 2019, although the final start date has not been determined yet.
Improvements will include: renovation of the waiting room, platform improvements and restroom upgrade and expansion, including multiple stalls and baby changing tables. There will also additional signage with route and schedule details. The renovation will also include installation of solar panels on the roof to power the facility.
And we want to hear from you in this initial planning phase of the project.
Everyone is encouraged to drop by the ART Station between 3 and 6:30 p.m. Aug. 23 to get more information on the project, and to provide feedback to the architect and project team as they finalize the designs. The team is especially looking for comments on signage, lighting and interior waiting area upgrades.
The City of Asheville plans to do more communication with the community and especially ART riders prior to and during the station renovation.
About ART
ART (Asheville Redefines Transit) provides an average of 5,700 unlinked passenger trips per day via 18 routes with over 650 stops, including service on Sundays and holidays. It provides 30 minute frequency on all major corridors within the City. That adds up to 2.1 million rides per year. The number of residences in the city that are within one quarter mile of a transit route is about 73 percent.
The Transit Master Plan recommends expanding the total amount of service hours provided by over 40% starting in summer 2019.
