for Asheville’s Visiting Artist program.
Come celebrate the next phase in Asheville’s Visiting Artist Project: African American Arts and Culture with a party from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 20 at the Refinery at 207 Coxe Ave. — the Asheville Area Arts Council‘s welcoming and engaging space in the historic Southside community and emerging South Slope district.
This party kicks off an intense, two-week public input process that will help the Visiting Artist Project’s Leadership Team and for the Public Art and Cultural Commission (PACC) choose the best proposal (out of three) for a new public artwork that is inclusive of Asheville’s African American arts, history or culture. The winning proposal will be implemented next year by the finalist in the Visiting Artist Project, with help from local artists, community partners, and the public at large.
Drop in to the party to:
- Find out more about the (paid) local artist opportunities in the project.
- Review the three artists’ proposals.
- Get project information and survey forms to share with community members.
- Speak to the members of the Public Art and Cultural Commission and the Visiting Artist Project’s Leadership team.
- Suggest community partner opportunities.
- Enjoy music, adult and soft refreshments, and dialogue about making Asheville a more inclusive place for all.
Starting Sept. 19, everyone is invited can take an Open City Hall Asheville survey to provide input on The Visiting Artist Project. More information about the project, can be found on the City’s Public Art Program webpage.
