The “mayor’s committee” was made up of a group of private citizens – volunteers – who worked together to create awareness of issues facing persons with disabilities in their city. The Asheville Mayor’s Committee no longer meets regularly.

In April 2007, Mayor Terry Bellamy created the Mayor’s Committee for Veterans Affairs, a volunteer committee charged with providing advice to the mayor on events and issues of interest to active duty and retired service members and military veterans.
August 18, 2023 at 7:30 p.m. – Black Box Dance Theatre presents PATRIOT: a multi-year, multi-media dance project exploring complex issues faced by our military and those they serve. This powerful performance is back at The Wortham Center for Performing Arts and collaborating with Brothers and Sisters Like These and local veterans in presenting an evening-length dance work that is a must-see.
This performance is part of a national documentary being filmed on the power of the arts. “We want to convey real stories of real places where the arts are enriching communities,” says Mara Isaacs, Executive Director of the documentary.
