Original post:

The next formal meeting of the Asheville City Council will be held at 5 p.m. Sept. 24 in the U.S. Cellular Center Banquet Hall, 87 Haywood St. Free parking will be provided at the Civic Center Parking Garage for those who wish to attend, from 4 p.m. until the meeting is over.

Because of high interest in some agenda items, Council decided to move this meeting to accommodate a larger than usual number of attendees. Items on the agenda will include:

  •         A public hearing to consider a temporary moratorium on hotel development approvals within the City of Asheville. This moratorium would place a temporary hold on hotel development in Asheville for up to one year. Find out more about that item at this link.
  •         Two public hearings regarding charter amendments to return the Council elections to an at-large format and restore primary elections. Find out more about that item at this link.

People who wish to speak during the various public hearings will be asked to sign in prior to entering the meeting room. Sign ups can begin as early as 4 p.m.

The meeting will be streamed live on the City’s YouTube channel and broadcast on Charter cable TV Channel 193 as well as on the City of Asheville website at this link.
