The City of Asheville and Buncombe County hosted the first In Person Memorial Day Ceremony since 2019
The rain stayed away and the community of Asheville turned out Monday to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in serving their country
The 1 hour ceremony took place at the Roger McGuire Green. Attending were the Mayor, City Manager Debra Campbell and representatives from the County and military community
Asheville Mayor Esther Manheimer and Buncombe County Board of Commissioners Chairman Brownie Newman took part in a Recognition of Service. The joint Asheville Police and Fire Department Honor Guard presented and retired the colors. Dr. Vivianne Wersel, a Gold Star Families member, joined the Mayor in presenting Memorial wreaths in honor of the members of the Armed Forces who have sacrificed their lives in service to this country.
