The City of Asheville wants to hear from you! The City is considering actions to curb the consumption of single-use plastic bags at point of sale and expanded polystyrene (aka StyrofoamTM) foodware containers.
This short survey should take less than ten minutes to complete and will ask residents and businesses to share their experiences with these products, what actions they would like to see the City take and what kind of support would be necessary to reduce the consumption of these single-use plastic products.
The survey is available in English, Spanish, Ukrainian and Russian starting on Monday March 20, 2023 and will close on Sunday, April 30 at 11:59 pm.
Feedback received from the survey will be used to inform City Staff’s recommendation on next steps to City Council in October, 2023. Staff will also share results and any additional engagement opportunities with the community on the project page.
This survey is part of a phased approach to analyze and take action as determined by community engagement to reduce single-use plastic litter in our community. In January, 2023, City Council approved a revision to Chapter 15 of City Code prohibiting plastic bags for curbside leaf collection. This revision was based on previous outreach and education initiatives. In an effort to support this transition, paper yard waste bags will be distributed at select City Parks & Recreation (spring) and Fire facilities (summer and fall) during spring clean up and fall leaf season while supplies last.
