The City of Asheville is pleased to announce the initiation of the FY23 Asphalt Resurfacing contract, which is set to begin June 15, 2023. This project aims to improve the quality and durability of several roads within our community, enhancing the safety and convenience for motorists and pedestrians alike.

The roads included in this resurfacing project are as follows:

  • Bear Creek Drive
  • Bull Mountain Road (Governors View Road to Pinedale Road and Campground Road to Riceville Road)
  • Fairview Road (Sweeten Creek Road to School Road E)
  • Gibson Road
  • Hill Street (I-26 off ramp to Hill Street Baptist Church)
  • Jersey Street
  • Lee Street
  • Lower Edgewood Road
  • Oak Hill Circle and Oak Hill Drive
  • Pine Cone Drive
  • Popple Street
  • Ridgefield Boulevard
  • Silverstone Drive

While the exact schedule for the project has not been finalized, the initial work will commence on Jersey Street and Lee Street. We anticipate that the resurfacing operations for the remaining roads will take place later in the summer.

Fairview Road, however, will require a more intensive effort due to the inclusion of sidewalk improvements. As part of this project, the contract will focus on correcting ramps and drive aprons primarily, aiming to enhance accessibility for pedestrians. The sidewalk work is scheduled to begin early July, following the Independence Day holiday. During this phase, Fairview Road will experience periodic lane reductions with the assistance of flaggers to ensure a safe work environment for our contractor. We understand that this may cause inconveniences, and we appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation during this time. The contractor will be in close coordination with residents impacted by the drive apron improvements to minimize disruptions.

We kindly request motorists to exercise caution and adhere to all posted signage and directions while construction activities are underway. Your cooperation will contribute to the smooth execution of the project and the safety of all road users.
