In observance of Veterans Day, the City of Asheville offices will be closed Friday, November 10, 2023. Here is a look at how the City will be observing the day, and any impact to services.
Veterans Day Ceremony
This year’s Veteran’s Day ceremony, featuring keynote speaker Warren Dupree, a veteran serving in 2 wars, will take place on Saturday, November 11 at Charles George VA Medical Center. The ceremony will start at 11:00 a.m.
A replay of the ceremony will be available at 3:00 p.m. on the City of Asheville You Tube page.
SERVICES and FACILITIES
Transit
Asheville Rides Transit (ART) bus service will run on a normal schedule, and Veterans can ride fare free for the day.
Sanitation
Sanitation collection of waste and recycling is on a regular schedule. The office will be closed.
Parks & Recreation
All parks and greenways are open from 6 a.m.-10 p.m. Community centers and administrative offices are closed.
All community members are invited to share creative ideas and innovative thoughts to build Recreate Asheville, Asheville Parks & Recreation’s comprehensive plan that will guide decisions to fix, build, preserve, and connect parkland and recreation programs over the next 10-15 years. Community & Regional Entertainment Facilities
The Harrah’s Cherokee Center Asheville will be open on Friday, November 10 and is ready to host the Asheville Championships and NCAA Men’s Basketball season opening tournament. More information can be found at www.harrahscherokeecenterasheville.com
The WNC Nature Center, Aston Park Tennis Center and Asheville Municipal Golf Course will be open for normal operating hours.
Emergency services
All public safety services, including police, fire and emergency response, will operate to normal schedule – 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Water Resources staff will be available for water related emergencies 24 hours a day over the holiday .
Customers can call the customer service line at 828-251-1122 to report water related emergencies, leaks, breaks and no water calls.
