Asheville City government offices will be closed on Thursday, November 23, and Friday, November 24, 2023 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Here is a roundup of City service holiday schedules.
ART bus service
ART bus service will be suspended on November 23, in observance of the Thanksgiving Day holiday. Thanksgiving is one of two holidays during which the City of Asheville’s ART system closes. Sanitation schedule
Trash and recycling collection will be suspended on Thanksgiving Day, November 23, and the Sanitation office will be closed. Customers with Thursday trash and recycling collection will be collected on Friday, November 24. Carts should be placed by the curb by 7 a.m. Yard waste will be collected Monday-Wednesday and Friday of Thanksgiving week.

Parks & Recreation
All APR parks are open daily from 6 a.m.-10 p.m. This includes greenways, playgrounds, dog parks, outdoor sport courts and fields, river access points, and Riverside Cemetery.
All recreation and community center buildings are closed on on November 23 and November 24, but outdoor amenities such as playgrounds, sports courts and fields, and picnic tables and benches are available from 6 a.m.-10 p.m.
Harrah’s Cherokee Center Asheville
The Harris Cherokee Center Asheville will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, November 23, and Friday, November 24.
Aston Park Tennis Center will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, and re-open with normal schedule on Friday. The last day of the 2023 tennis season will be Thursday, November 30, 2023. Opening day for the 2024 tennis season will be April 1, 2024.
The WNC Nature Center, and Asheville Municipal Golf Course will be closed on Thanksgiving Day but will reopen on a normal schedule on Friday, November 24.
Water Resources
Staff will be on 24-hour availability for water-related emergencies over the holiday. Customers can call the customer service line at 828-251-1122 to report water-related emergencies, leaks, breaks, or service interruptions.
Public Safety
All public safety services, including police, fire, and emergency response, will operate on a normal schedule – 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
