Asheville Parks & Recreation (APR) continues to develop its team of innovative professionals to meet the community’s demand for high-quality public parks and recreation centers, programming that exercises the body and mind, and safe spaces that connect neighbors and build resiliency. Christin King has been announced as the new Facility Supervisor at Linwood Crump Shiloh Community Center.
About Christin
Christin joined the APR team in 2015 as a seasonal staff member with Lucy Herring Elementary’s summer and APR Afterschool programs before transitioning to Grove Street Community Center in the morning and Herring in the afternoon in 2017. She continued at Grove Street while filling in at other community centers, working with older adults in the morning and kids and teens in the afternoon.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Christin took on a variety of roles including social distance security worker at Asheville Municipal Golf Course, distributing lunches to families in neighborhoods throughout Buncombe County, virtual camp counselor, and member of the PODS (Positive Opportunities Develop Success) team. In the summer of 2020, she became a Program Leader at Tempie Avery Montford Community Center before returning to Grove Street in the same role, as well as filling in at other community centers, afterschool sites, and therapeutic recreation programs.
In addition to her work at community centers, she’s helped plan and execute community events including Easter Eggstravaganza, Haunted Castle on the Hill, Truck City AVL, Midnight Madness Basketball Tournament, Second Chance Prom, and more.
As Facility Supervisor, Christin works under the direction of Tameka Crudup, Crump Shiloh Center Manager. Responsibilities include organizing and directing recreation programs for all ages and abilities, participating in daily operations and maintenance, providing program budget information, and planning, scheduling, and supervising recreation staff.
