Community Engagement (CED)

The Asheville Police Department’s Community Engagement Division (CED) collaborates closely with local businesses, schools, neighborhoods, and community organizations to build positive relationships and promote a shared commitment to public safety across Asheville. Taking a proactive, collaborative approach that extends beyond traditional policing, CED is dedicated to addressing complex community challenges such as homelessness, substance misuse, and mental health.

The Community Engagement Division (CED), led by Captain Jonathan Brown, is a cornerstone of the Asheville Police Department’s efforts to build strong, positive relationships with the community. The division includes a dedicated Lieutenant, Sergeants, School Resource Officers, Community Resource Officers, and Officer Kora, APD’s therapy dog.

School Resource Officers play a pivotal role in creating safe and supportive learning environments, fostering trust with students, and addressing the unique needs of local schools. Meanwhile, Community Resource Officers serve as vital liaisons between law enforcement and neighborhoods, working to strengthen community ties and promote collaborative problem-solving.

Adding a special touch to these efforts, Officer Kora provides emotional support and helps build meaningful connections between officers and residents, exemplifying the division’s commitment to community-focused initiatives.
