Due to unsafe conditions and continued threats of falling trees, Richmond Hill Park is closed. APR understands this closure may cause inconvenience and sincerely apologizes for disruptions caused by Tropical Storm Helene. Our team is committed to completing essential safety measures as quickly and efficiently as possible and will provide updates on the park’s reopening as they become available.
The City of Asheville appreciates and understands our community’s concerns regarding reports of recent use of heavy machinery for post-Helene cleanup. Please be assured that protecting valuable recreational resources like Richmond Hill Park is a priority. To clarify, City staff did not approve a cut-and-push operation on the Richmond Hill Park trail system.
Following discussions between the City, FEMA, and the United States Army Corps of Engineers, and due to significant wildfire and trail damage concerns, we have taken decisive action and requested all crews at Richmond Hill Park be relocated to other high-priority parks that require debris removal. This pause remains in effect pending the completion of our full assessment of Richmond Hill Park.
If you are looking for alternative recreation locations, please email parks@ashevillenc.gov or consider these options:
- Aston Park‘s disc golf course is open
- For wooded natural trails, visit Masters Park or check out Explore Asheville’s hiking page
As a reminder, unauthorized work by community members may jeopardize the City of Asheville’s eligibility for reimbursements and other funding critical to restoring and rebuilding this location. The City of Asheville asks for patience and understanding as we work together to safely restore damaged spaces and rebuild a stronger, more resilient Asheville. Thank you for supporting our community’s recovery.
Featuring an expansive campus of wooded trails, an 18-hole disc golf course, and bike skills area, Richmond Hill Park is a great place to connect with nature just minutes from downtown.
