This location is closed until further notice due to effects of Hurricane Helene and other storms in late September. Previously scheduled activities, events, programs, and rentals are cancelled during this time.

Known as the Castle on the Hill, Stephens-Lee High School opened in 1923 and was for many decades western North Carolina’s only secondary school for Black students. The gymnasium was converted to a community center in the 1970s.

Looking for an affordable indoor location for your next party, reunion, baby shower, retreat, or celebration? Reserve the multipurpose room for $25 per hour (required $100 security deposit refunded after rental) online or by calling the center at 828-350-2058.
