APR Innovators is an Asheville Parks & Recreation series highlighting team members going above and beyond to bring huge value to community members through knowledge, connections, and insight that come from a desire to create the best city possible through the power of high-quality recreation programs and safe parks that welcome everyone.

When did you join the Asheville Parks & Recreation (APR) team?

I joined as an Administrative Assistant on May 5, 2008. Since then, I’ve served as Business Services Supervisor, Program and Operations Manager, and my current position of Resource Division Manager.

I was looking for a job that served the community and was lucky to find one with APR that connected back to my college degree in recreation and matched my skill sets.

Which accomplishments are you most proud of in terms of your work with the department?

The Resource Division provides support and information externally to our community and internally to department staff. I am proud of creating and developing a team of dedicated professionals who care about the people we serve and continue to come up with ideas for improvement.

Gratitude to have a job I enjoy that allows me to laugh with coworkers and that my family can also participate in – like the time we planted trees as part of APR’s 30 Trees in 30 Days increasing Asheville’s tree canopy.

How have you grown professionally by working with APR?

Since joining the APR team, I’ve earned my Masters in Public Administration (MPA), obtained my Society for Human Resources Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) certification, attended two National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) management schools, and continue to learn from my coworkers.
