At their March 26 meeting, Asheville City Council unanimously reappointed current Asheville City Board of Education Chair Shaunda Sandford and Vice Chair Martha Geitner. Each of them will serve additional four-year terms to expire in 2023.

The Council also voted to appoint James Carter to complete the current term of James E. Lee III, who was appointed in 2017 but resigned, as he is moving to another community. His term will run through April 1, 2021. Carter is a graduate of the Asheville City School System. He went on to earn a history degree at UNC Asheville. He is the parent of a child who graduated from SILSA in 2012 and has served in various voluntary roles at the schools and in the community.

All three appointed members will be sworn in during the Asheville City Board of Education’s April 1 meeting at the Central Office, 85 Mountain St. There will be a 5 p.m. worksession followed by a regular board meeting at 6:30 p.m.

The regular session will be streamed live on the Asheville City Schools Facebook page.
