About the budget
By law, the City of Asheville must pass a balanced budget by July 1. The Fiscal Year runs from July to June so the Council is currently working with City leadership, including the Finance staff, on the budget for Fiscal Year 2018-2019.
During this time of the year, City staff works with Council to hammer out expenditures vs. revenue for the new fiscal year. Those conversations happen during the budget worksessions, and Council has already had several of them.
The proposed FY 2018-2019 budget will be presented to City Council during its May 15 meeting. City Council will hold a public hearing on the budget during its 5 p.m. May 22 meeting. Council is expected to adopt the budget during its June 19 meeting.
