Registrations begins March 1

Asheville Parks & Recreation announces a fun and exciting camp line-up for summer! Our camps may look a little different this year, but we’re still bringing the fun for youth and teens at our camp locations. All programs will follow public health guidelines and include enhanced safety measures, limited numbers of participants and social distancing.  

Registration for all programs begins online at 9 a.m. March 1 at www.avlrec.com.

Summer Youth Program

Kids will keep active this summer at this FREE supervised recreation program for rising first- to fifth-graders.  Activities include games, crafts, and cultural arts. Camp will be held at Tempie Avery Montford Center, 34 Pearson Drive. Camp will operate Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. each week beginning June 7 through August 13. Summer Teen Program

Looking for a cool and enriching alternative to regular teen summer camps? This FREE program offers creative activities, diverse projects, and more for rising sixth- to ninth-graders. Camp will be held at the Dr. Wesley Grant Sr. Southside Center, 285 Livingston Street. Camp will operate Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. each week beginning June 7 through August 13. For more information, contact Jessica Johnston at jjohnston@ashevillenc.gov.

Summer Camp at Malvern Hills

A FREE outdoor camp held at the Malvern Hills Picnic Shelter, 75 Rumbough Place, for rising first- to fifth-graders. Activities will include arts and crafts, games, and more. Camp will operate Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. each week beginning June 7 through August 13. For more information, contact Shateisha Lenoir Bowden at slenoir@ashevillenc.gov.

Therapeutic Recreation Summer Camp

A FREE weekly recreation program will be offered for youth and teens ages 6 to 18 with mild to moderate cognitive or developmental delays who meet eligibility requirements. Daily activities will include group games, arts and crafts, nature exploration and special events. Youth camp will be held at the West Asheville Community Center, 970 Haywood Road, and teen camp will be held at the Murphy-Oakley Community Center, 749 Fairview Road. Camp operates Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. each week beginning June 7 through August 13.  For more information, contact Lori Long at llong@ashevillenc.gov.

 

WNC Nature Center Wild Weeks Camps

This weekly camp is designed to provide fun and educational experiences in the wonders of the natural world. All camps are for children entering first grade through fourth grade in fall 2021.  Three unique themes will be repeated throughout the summer.  All sessions focus on animals, outdoor recreation, crafts, and group activities on the Center grounds. These themed weekly camps will be held Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. Fee: $200/week. Friends of the WNCNC Members receive a $25 discount.  After-care is available from 3 until 5 p.m. for an additional $50 per week.  For more information, contact Eli Strull at 828-259-8082 or estrull@ashevillenc.gov.   • Reptiles & Amphibians:  June 14-18, July 5-9, and July 26-30.
  • Fur, Feathers, & Fun:  June 21-25, July 12-16, and August 2-6.
