Crew to begin Skyview Place retaining wall repairs

The repair area on Skyview Place.

Work will begin Monday, Jan. 14, to repair and extend a retaining wall between Skyview Place and Sunset Drive.

That portion of Skyview Place has been closed since 2017, when heavy rains caused a slope failure.

The project will include improvements to the stormwater system on Skyview Place, designed to keep water off of the slope.

Most of 2018 was taken up by a difficult design process and poor weather preventing the contractor from starting.

Now that the design is ready and the contractor is ready to begin, we anticipate this project will take less than 4 months to complete.

Skyview Place has been closed to through traffic since the slide and will remain closed during construction. Sunset Drive has remained open at the Skyview Place intersection. During construction, traffic will likely be flagged at this intersection and may be stopped for short times while materials are unloaded. The contractor will try to have deliveries scheduled early in the morning — around 7 a.m.

The construction contract is $575,270. Funding for the project came from the general fund.
