The City of Asheville is excited to announce our application for redesignation as a Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC). This program, run by the League of American Bicyclists, aims to make communities more accessible and enjoyable for bicyclists of all ages and abilities. Recognition as a BFC acknowledges the City’s commitment towards making bicycling safe and convenient for both transportation and recreation. The City received a bronze-level designation in 2020. The League’s 2020 Report Card for the City can be found here.
In coordination with the BFC review process, the League of American Bicyclists is seeking to gain a better understanding of local bicyclists’ experiences in Asheville. We invite you to participate in the League’s public survey to share your experiences with and suggestions for improving biking conditions in Asheville. Anonymous aggregate survey results will be included in the League’s feedback materials shared with the City later this year.
Please share this survey link with friends, family, and fellow bicyclists in the area. The more responses we receive, the better we can represent the diverse experiences of our community. The survey will be open until Tuesday, October 15th.
A Spanish-language version of the survey is available upon request. If you or someone you know would prefer to complete the survey in Spanish, please email Amelia Neptune at amelia@bikeleague.org.
The BFC Award levels (Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum) are determined based on the ‘5E’ criteria. The BFC program is designed to meet all communities where they are, regardless of their size, geography, demographics, socio-economics, politics, or current transportation patterns.
It is anticipated the BFC award results will be announced in December. More information on the BFC program can be found here.
Thank you for your participation and support in making Asheville a more bicycle-friendly community!
