Neighborhood: Kenilworth Forest.
Where is it? Kenilworth Forest is a friendly, established cul-de-sac neighborhood of 100 homes on the east side of lovely Kenilworth Lake. We are just off Tunnel Road. I-240 West brings you to vibrant downtown Asheville in five minutes.
Details: Kenilworth Lake was formed in 1925 by “impounding the waters of Ross Creek,” culminating in a gentle waterfall over the dam on the south end of our 19-acre lake. In 1925 dollars, the concrete and reinforced-steel dam was built at a cost of $50,000. Since that time, we have become known for our lush gardens and “urban forestry,” including native Dogwoods, Redbuds, Sweetgum, soaring Oaks and White Pines reaching 150 feet into the air.
Housing in Kenilworth Forest was first developed in the 1940s. Then and now it is a quiet, walkable neighborhood with two generous parks and just four streets: White Pine Drive ushers you in from Tunnel Road, past Spring Park Road, White Pine Court circles the Upper Park and East Shore Drive hugs the lake and turns back to White Pine Drive between the Upper and Lower Parks. As a three-mile cul-de-sac, walking, running, biking and strollers are safe and encourage neighborhood interaction.
Neighborhood association: Kenilworth Forest Residents Association, established in the 1950s, hosts neighborhood park plantings, trail mulching teams, and holiday parties, as well as keeping residents informed of pertinent information via email, newsletters and signage. Membership is voluntary, with $50 suggested yearly dues to cover newsletters, events, improvements and native plantings in the two parks. Welcome to Kenilworth Forest, our haven in the City!
