Where is it? Redwood Forest is located in East Asheville off of Tunnel Road on the north and Swannanoa Road on the south, across from the Haw Creek Community. Trinity Presbyterian Church is located on Shawnee Trail on the west side of our community.
Details: Redwood Forest comprises approximately 80 families. First homes were built here in the mid-1950s. Several families have resided here for more than 30 years; our newest resident was born March 4, 2020!
Our strengths are our willingness to connect with our neighbors, to check in and lend a hand. Grass is cut, weeds pulled, common areas cleaned up by caring neighbors. We benefit also from being adjacent to Trinity Presbyterian Church where our neighbors walk, use the playground and attend events at the church such as their annual BBQ and Easter Eggstravanganza!
Our challenges are traffic, too much and too fast, as we are a thoroughfare for drivers outside of Redwood Forest to get to businesses on south Tunnel Road.
Neighborhood festival: About 10 years ago, we resurrected our annual block party and hold one on the fourth Saturday in August. Most recently it has been held on the front lawn of Trinity Presbyterian Church….thank you Trinity! This potluck is a big hit!
Additionally, we conduct an annual meeting to learn more about what is happening in the City and from each other. This year we heard from our Community Resource Officer, Officer Sarah Baker, and Brenda Mills, Community and Neighborhood Engagement Manager. And we spend time each spring cleaning the traffic circles, chicanes and entrances to Redwood Forest.
We strive to be good neighbors and to build a good community!
