On any given day you will find people snapping pictures of themselves in front of Asheville City Hall. The distinctive, eight-story eclectic Art Deco masterpiece designed by Douglas D. Ellington and built in the 1920s serves as a perfect placemaking backdrop for visitors and locals alike. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Asheville City Hall has been the setting for many a social media selfie.
This Monday, Aug. 15, the City of Asheville invites you to make a selfie in front of City Hall as part of the first ever national #cityhallselfie day. Please use the hashtags #Asheville #cityhallselfie to celebrate not only our historic headquarters but also a unity of connection many feel to Asheville.
Look for City Hall selfies of City staff, individually and in groups from many departments, on #cityhallselfie day too.
Organized by Engaging Local Government Leaders, this national snapshot of communities in front of their city halls asks that people on Monday used the #cityhallselfie hashtag on Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat or Twitter. We ask that you add #Asheville to show the nation where we are.
We will compile as many #cityhallselfie moments as we can in a photo album on the City of Asheville Facebook page.
So swing on by Asheville City Hall on Monday, Aug. 15. Smile into your smartphone camera and show your pride in Asheville!
