Background
In 2020, an assessment was completed of all three fountains in Pack Square Park. Two of the fountains, Splasheville and the fountain in the mid-block area, were not operable at the time. After investigating multiple options, the decision was made to allocate the available funding to rebuild Splasheville due to its popularity in the community. Splasheville, the very popular interactive splash pad located in Pack Square Park went under a major renovation beginning in spring, 2021 including replacing the controls, wiring and plumbing and repairing or replacing many of the surface tiles and their supporting gridwork.
The splash pad in Pack Square Park has been completely renovated with plumbing, wiring, control systems, surface tiles, and the supporting gridwork replaced. While these upgrades decrease downtime for preventative maintenance, they also cement Splasheville’s place as a downtown showpiece. In fact, Asheville’s only public splash pad is the most technologically advanced in North Carolina with lights, water programming, and more high-quality improvements that offer community members a chance to cool off in the heart of downtown.
