What we do Last updated or reviewed on August 27, 2024 The Capital Management Department (CMD) plans, budgets, designs and manages projects as well as maintains existing public facilities. CMD is made of two divisions: Capital Projects and Public Facilities Management. The Capital Projects team manages major construction projects including building renovations, parks and playgrounds, as well as transportation infrastructure. The Public Facilities Management team is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, upkeep, safety, and future planning of 60+ facilities, including the operations of select city operational and public safety facilities. By aligning projects and operations with the City’s vision and priorities, CMD ensures effective allocation of resources and maximizes the positive impact on Asheville residents. The Capital Management Department strives to: Ensure projects are built on time and within budget. Promote an equitable, collaborative system for prioritizing maintenance and construction of capital assets that will allow for clear communication of budgetary needs and alignment with organizational priorities and values. Help develop and practice procurement for all levels of contracting that actively and intentionally seek to increase equity and inclusion in project initiation, development, design, and construction.
