The City of Asheville announced August 21 that the Broadway Public Safety Station has been awarded LEED Gold. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), is the most widely used green building rating system in the world.

The Broadway Public Safety Station achieved LEED Gold for implementing practical and measurable strategies and solutions in areas including sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality. One of those features includes the generation of onsite renewable energy. Additional features of the building that contributed to LEED Gold certification are outlined and summarized in this memo shared with the Sustainable Advisory Committee.BPSS construction team member on ladder
