The Citizens Police Academy (CPA) teaches participants about the philosophies, policies, and guiding principles of law enforcement and the ethical conduct governing police services in the community. Participants will also be given time to offer comments, ideas, and solutions.


About the Citizen’s Police Academy

The course consists of basic classroom instruction, presentations, and demonstrations of topics such as criminal investigations, constitutional and criminal law, use of force, departmental structure, and defensive tactics. Participants will also be given the opportunity to ride along with an officer and participate in simulated weapons training. Those wishing to participate must apply and be accepted. 

 

The Spring 2025 Academy

Sessions are held each Thursday from 5:30 to 9 pm for ten weeks. The course is held at the Municipal Building, 100 Court Plaza, in downtown Asheville. Dinner is provided.

We are not currently accepting applications for the Spring 2025 academy, as the response was fantastic and we cannot accept any additional applicants! Look for information on the Fall 2025 Academy!
